Biology eBooks

WERC Staff’s illustrated field guides on canids, carnivores and the ecology that holds them up. Written for readers who want more than a species page.

The library

Two titles available now, with more in production:

Canines — A Field Introduction

Wolves, coyotes, foxes and the wild dogs most people never hear about. How they hunt, how they communicate, how they fit into the ecosystems they inhabit. Illustrated with field photographs and tracking data from our own programs.

Carnivores & Mesopredators

The middle predators — raccoons, badgers, fishers, martens, skunks — and the cascading effects they trigger when larger carnivores disappear. An accessible introduction to mesopredator release, written for the classroom and the curious layperson.

What is coming next

A field guide to mesopredators of the Pacific Northwest. A companion volume on raptors (in collaboration with OBDK). Updates to both existing titles as field data accumulates.

We announce each new publication on the journal feed and in the C3 newsletter.
